This workshop is suitable for dancers, choreographers, performance artists, circus artists and those interested in using archives in their creative work.

In this workshop, led by Dr Finola Cronin and Emma Meehan, we will explore the value of creating and revisiting documentation/archives of your own work and of other artists. We will explore different sources such as video, photographs, scores and reviews, as well as practical approaches to revisiting archives such as reconstruction, revival and re-working. We will also pay attention to how to represent the less tangible aspects of a dance work such as context, qualities, impulses and emotions.

Dr. Finola Cronin is Head of Drama Studies at UCD. She studied and performed with Joan Davis and Dublin Contemporary Dance Studio in the late 1970s (just prior to the founding of DCDT). She studied later at London School of Contemporary Dance, and performed in Germany with Vivienne Newport (Frankfurt) and Pina Bausch (Wuppertal) in the 1980s & 1990s. In 2012/13 she performed in Raimund Hoghe’s Cantatas. She teaches choreography, and drama & performance studies at UCD, and is director of the UCD/GSA MA in Theatre Practice. With Eamonn Jordan she edited The Contemporary Irish Theatre and Performance Studies Reader Dublin: Carysfort Press (2016) (available online).

The workshop continues on from Live Archive performance on Saturday 18th February | 8pm
and adds to Live Archive Exhibition which runs Monday to Fridays 11am – 4pm from Monday 6th to Friday 24th February
