Snake Talk is a zany, disquieting, feminist evening length performance spectacle that navigates interspecies intimacy, feminine voraciousness and wild unfettered dancing. It is staged in the void, the lecture hall, and the nightclub.
This work features performance by collaborative choreographic team Maryanna Lachman, Mara Madrona, and Abby Crain, lighting design by Elizabeth Ardent and sound design by Samuel Hertz.
Snake Talk is an ongoing collaborative project rooted in investigations of interspecies kinship in an age of environmental collapse and rampant neoliberalism.
Snake Talk was created with support from the Kenneth Rainin Foundation, Zellerbach Family Foundation, CounterPulse Theater, and fiscal sponsorship from Jess Curtis/Gravity.
Abby Crain, Maryanna Lachman and Mara Poliak are all artists based in Oakland, CA and have been in ongoing collaboration since 2013. Abby makes dance, teaches writes and curates and performs, Maryanna is a dance maker and curator, Mara is a dancer, curator, artist and writer.
Elizabeth Ardent, a freelance lighting designer based in Oakland CA is the lighting designer and Samuel Hertz a composer and performer is responsible for sound design.
